Security Improves, Return Plans Underway

Surin Governor Chamnarn Chuentha announced today that security conditions along the Thai–Cambodian border have significantly improved, following the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. Authorities are now evaluating the situation further to determine when residents can safely return to their homes.

The Governor noted that the situation in Sangkhla and Kap Choeng districts has returned to normal. In Prasat district, only minor damage remains across three to four subdistricts, with repair work already in progress. In Phanom Dong Rak district, residents will be allowed to return to most areas, except for the Ta Miang and Bak Dai subdistricts, where a military presence remains in place as security evaluations continue.

Officials are preparing to facilitate a phased return of evacuees, giving priority to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, bedridden individuals, and those with limited mobility. Mine clearance operations are ongoing, and the construction of bomb shelters, funded by public donations, is underway.

Governor Chamnarn also urged the central government to introduce emergency income support measures for farmers and other residents affected by the conflict. Many have been without income for 15 days, and urgent financial assistance is needed to ease economic hardship and speed up local recovery efforts.
