Conditions for Applying for a VAT Refund

     If you are traveling in Thailand, have purchased goods, and wish to apply for a VAT refund, it is a simple process under the following conditions:

  1. Tourists must export the goods out of the Thai kingdom within 60 days, counting the date of purchase as the first day.
  2. The goods must be purchased from stores that display the "VAT REFUND FOR TOURISTS" sign.
  3. The goods must have a value of not less than 2,000 Baht (including VAT), bought from the same business establishment on the same day.
  4. On the day of purchase, show your passport to the salesperson and request form Por Por 10 from the store along with the original tax invoice. Each Por Por 10 form must have a goods value of at least 2,000 Baht.
  5. On the day of departure, before check-in, present goods and the Por Por 10 form with a total purchase value of up to 5,000 Baht to the customs officer for goods inspection and stamping.
  6. Expensive goods, such as gem-set or gold ornaments, watches, glasses, pens, mobile phones or smartphones, laptops, handbags (not including luggage), belts that are valued at 10,000 Baht or more per item, or goods that can be carried along with a purchase value of 50,000 Baht or more per item, must be presented again to the revenue officer for certification on the Por Por 10 form at the VAT refund office, which is located in the passenger departure area, after passing through immigration.
