World-renowned Thai soft power, traditional Thai massage

Thai traditional massage is a factor in Thailand’s “soft power” that is accepted at the international level. Foreign travelers entering Thailand would like to try it, especially the popular Thai massage at Wat Pho, the birthplace of Thai massage. Even a short session of foot massage, available at hotels, shopping centers, and countless locations, can make a difference to your day.

On 12 December 2019, Thai massage was registered as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in Bogota, Colombia. According to the UNESCO document, Thai massage is a science and an art for alleviating diseases in a traditional way. Thai massage helps relieve pain without using medicine. Pressure on the body’s pressure points can help relieve pain, establish balance, and improve health throughout the body. It is believed that pain or discomfort is caused by imbalance. The invisible energy pathways called “sen” in the body are blocked. Thai massage is developed from local healthcare wisdom of people in the agricultural society. The skills and body of knowledge about Thai massage have been passed on from generation to generation and developed into a systematic pattern.

In addition, traditional Thai massage helps relieve tension and stiffness in the body. Foreigners who plan a trip to Thailand should not miss a refreshing, healing session of traditional Thai massage.
