Launch of Joint Laboratory “Belt and Road” NSTDA joins hands with China’s USST to develop rehabilitation technology for the elderly

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) from China have announced a partnership to establish the "Belt and Road Joint Laboratory" for a period of three years. The goal is to develop intelligent rehabilitation technologies to enhance the quality of life for elderly and disabled individuals in Thailand and China through four key mechanisms:

  1. Wearable Rehabilitation Robots—Designing intelligent devices to aid movement and muscle recovery.
  2. AI Health Monitoring—Real-time tracking systems for elderly and chronic patients.
  3. Advanced Neuroengineering—Using AI to analyze neural signals for personalized treatment.
  4. International Researcher Exchange—Building a network of Thai-Chinese experts in rehabilitation medicine.

This collaboration is expected to lead to comprehensive innovations in elderly care, including assistive robots and intelligent health monitoring devices. It aims to reduce the burden on healthcare systems, create opportunities for exporting Thai technology globally, and enhance the capabilities of Thai researchers through knowledge exchange with major health innovation powers.

This marks the beginning of a partnership that "not only creates technology but builds an ecosystem for aging societies," aiming to transform the future of elderly care by improving quality of life through innovations developed by Thai and Chinese collaboration.
