Trilateral Meeting between Leaders of Thailand, the Philippines, and Cambodia

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, President of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet attended a trilateral meeting to discuss the Thailand-Cambodia situation, on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Republic of the Philippines, on 7 May 2026.

The Thai side expressed appreciation to the Philippines, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair, for its initiative in convening the meeting, and for supporting Thailand and Cambodia to engage in dialogue.

The meeting welcomed Thailand and Cambodia’s shared commitment to consolidating the ceasefire and to advancing constructive dialogue and peaceful settlement on the basis of good neighborliness. In this spirit, the Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia agreed to task their Foreign Ministers to work together on a list of confidence-building measures, with a view to rebuilding trust and confidence and gradually restoring bilateral relations.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Anutin joined a press briefing, together with the President of the Philippines and the Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The Prime Minister of Thailand stated that he had a constructive and forward-looking discussion with Prime Minister Hun Manet. The exchange was candid and meaningful, and provided a good opportunity to reaffirm the shared commitment to dialogue and peace.

He said that Thailand and Cambodia are neighboring countries that are closely linked in many ways. Conflict only brings losses and suffering, and further highlights the value of peace. Now is the time for both countries to look forward and turn a new page in relations. This requires sincerity, good faith, and determination from all sides.

The Prime Minister disclosed that Thailand and Cambodia agreed to assign their respective Foreign Ministers to work together on a list of practical confidence-building measures, starting with issues where the two countries have common ground and can be implemented immediately. These measures would be key to restoring trust and gradually rebuilding bilateral relations.

According to the Prime Minister, Thailand and Cambodia must move forward together, step by step, in the same direction. As both countries move forward, they should communicate more directly with each other at all levels, seek ways to bridge gaps, and expand cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.

On the issue of land and maritime boundary, Thailand has proposed a constructive way forward to address this issue in the spirit of good neighborliness.

In closing, the Prime Minister emphasized that today’s discussion marked an important step toward easing the situation and demonstrated the determination of all sides to preserve regional peace and stability. Thailand stands ready to work constructively with all parties on the basis of mutual understanding, mutual respect, and shared interests for the benefit of the peoples of both countries and the region.
