Thailand Strengthens Ties with Russia and Islamic Markets at KazanForum 2026

Thailand participated in the 17th International Economic Forum Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum 2026 in Kazan, Russia, as part of its efforts to expand international cooperation in tourism, sports, and economic diplomacy. The Thai delegation attended the forum at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Center during 12–17 May 2026, highlighting Thailand’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Russia and countries in the Islamic world.

The forum brought together representatives from more than 90 countries under the theme “Trust and Cooperation,” aiming to promote long-term economic collaboration amid global geopolitical uncertainty. Thailand used the opportunity to connect with policymakers, investors, and business leaders from Islamic countries and the Global South, while also exploring opportunities in the halal economy and emerging multipolar global markets.

During the visit, the Thai delegation also toured major sports infrastructure facilities in Kazan, including the Aquatics Palace, Gymnastics Center, and the Federal Rowing Training Center. Kazan has gained international recognition as Russia’s “Sports Capital” through strategic investment in mega sporting events and urban development. Thailand views the Kazan model as a valuable example for promoting sports tourism, infrastructure development, and regional economic growth in ASEAN.
