News 3: Thailand Strengthens Digital Gateway Role with Google’s ‘TalayLink’ Subsea Cable
Thailand is set to become a key digital hub in Southeast Asia with the launch of TalayLink, a new subsea cable connecting the country to Australia, announced by Google Cloud. The cable will enhance Thailand’s digital infrastructure, boost connectivity, and improve stability and resilience across the Asia–Pacific region.
The TalayLink route creates an independent pathway across the Indian Ocean, ensuring Thailand’s upcoming Google Cloud Region and data centres are directly linked to global networks. This move strengthens the nation’s position as a Digital Gateway, supporting cloud computing, AI services, and next-generation digital innovation.
The project also includes a new connectivity hub in southern Thailand, developed in partnership with AIS as a colocation provider. This hub leverages Thailand’s strategic position as a subsea cable crossroads, accelerating deployment and maximizing the benefits of local infrastructure. With ALT Telecom contributing its expertise in nationwide network management and cable landing operations, the initiative further reinforces Thailand’s telecommunications backbone.
Secretary-General of the Board of Investment (BOI), said TalayLink is a critical step in expanding Thailand’s digital economy and positioning the country as a regional leader in cloud and AI services. The enhanced network will not only serve domestic users but also connect Thailand to Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa, and beyond, supporting international trade, data flow, and technological innovation.
With this investment, Thailand is strengthening its role in the global digital ecosystem while accelerating its national AI strategy and future-ready infrastructure.
