Thailand Showcases Its Energy Transition Leadership at Major Global Conference

Thailand made a big statement on the global energy stage as the country hosted the IEEE PES GTD Asia 2025 conference in Bangkok — a huge event that brought together over 10,000 participants and 400 companies from more than 40 countries. The four-day gathering focused on how the region can move toward carbon neutrality, and Thailand used the spotlight to show exactly how it plans to lead that shift.

The energy minister opened the event by highlighting how important this moment is for Thailand’s clean energy goals, saying it’s a major chance to drive new technology, attract investment, and strengthen long-term energy security.

EGAT also laid out its big net-zero roadmap — aiming for net-zero by 2050 and cutting emissions in half by 2037. Their strategy includes everything from floating solar farms and battery storage to smart grids, AI-enabled systems, and even studying small modular nuclear reactors. They’re rolling out new tools like Direct PPAs, the Utility Green Tariff, and upgraded transmission systems to support the increasing demand for renewable energy, EVs, data centres, and advanced industries.

A huge part of the conference focused on making the grid smarter and more resilient. International experts talked about how AI is transforming electricity systems, how hazard detection tech is reducing outages, and how Southeast Asia can integrate much more wind and solar with the right policies and infrastructure.

At the exhibition zone highlights included cutting-edge innovations in smart grids, automation, hydrogen systems, and more. It also reinforced Thailand’s growing role as a major regional hub for energy conferences and technology showcases.

From this conference, Thailand had clearly positioned itself as a leader in shaping the region’s sustainable energy future — with a strong mix of ambition, technology, and long-term planning.
