Thailand Sets NSTDA as ‘National Research Engine’ to Drive High- Income Economy

Thailand is accelerating its transition toward a high-income economy by positioning the National Science and Technology Development Agency as a “National Research Engine.” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yoschanan Wongsawat, stressed that research must move beyond academic output to deliver real impact—aligned with national priorities and accessible to people across all sectors.

The policy highlights the role of innovation in driving both economic and social transformation. From precision agriculture that boosts farmers’ productivity to empowering SMEs with global competitiveness, research is being turned into tangible opportunity. At the same time, digital healthcare and personalized education systems are set to improve quality of life and reduce inequality nationwide.

This vision will also take center stage at the NSTDA Annual Conference 2026, where Thailand’s strategy for a green and innovation-driven economy will be showcased. With a target to benefit over 10 million people and generate more than 17 billion baht in impact by 2027, NSTDA is redefining research as a key force powering inclusive growth and the country’s future.
