Thailand Ready to Host 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings, 12-18 October

Thailand has reaffirmed its readiness to host the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings, dubbed the “Olympics of Finance,” from 12-18 October, welcoming more than 15,000 participants from 191 members countries.

Dr. Ekniti Nithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, led a press tour of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), joined by Dr. Vinit Visessuvanapoom, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office. The visit showcased the venue’s full readiness ahead of its official handover to the IMF and World Bank.

The Deputy said the government has prepared facilities and infrastructure to the highest international standards, with advanced technology and digital innovation. At the same time, Thailand’s distinctive identity, including the warmth, friendship, and meticulous care of Thai hospitality, runs through every aspect of the welcome, creating a lasting impression and underscoring Thailand’s standing on the world stage.

■ Venue and security readiness

The QSNCC has upgraded its operations to international benchmarks, including a state-of-the-art Master Control Room and broadcast transmission systems built to the caliber of major global events like the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League.

The operations team includes experts with direct experience from the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Security is at the highest level, coordinated closely with the Royal Thai Police through multi-tiered zoning, with 17 X-ray checkpoints, 19 walk-through security gates, and 24-hour CCTV surveillance.

Dedicated security personnel are stationed around the clock at all 21 official delegate hotels.

■ Economic and investment impact

The meetings are expected to generate an estimated THB1.05-2.25 billion (roughly US$31-67 million) in economic activity. Thailand will also use the global stage to promote its investment potential in artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, digital infrastructure, and clean energy.

■ Thai culture on display

Thai culture and local wisdom will take center stage through 37 traditional textile patterns representing 26 communities across 21 provinces, locally crafted sculptures, and Thai food and beverages made with domestic ingredients and geographical indication (GI) products.

■ Green Meeting initiative

Dr. Vinit highlighted the event’s sustainability efforts, including more than 320 electric vehicles, paperless meeting systems, circular waste management, and reduced single-use plastics. The EV fleet is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 95.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
