Thailand Prepares to Host “OECD 101” to Advance Its Path toward OECD Membership

Thailand’s King Prajadhipok's Institute will organize the seminar “OECD 101: Thailand’s Path Toward OECD Membership” on 19 August 2026 at Parliament. The event aims to provide members of Parliament with a fundamental understanding of the role of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), international standards, and the OECD accession process. The knowledge gained will help strengthen Parliament’s role in promoting and supporting Thailand’s efforts to achieve OECD membership in an effective manner.

Thailand is currently in the process of its accession to the OECD, a development regarded as an important milestone in the country’s foreign policy and economic development. The accession process involves upgrading laws, policies, and standards across a wide range of areas, including public administration, economic policy, environmental policy, and governance. OECD membership is expected to help raise the country’s economic, trade, and investment standards in line with international benchmarks, enhance transparency and foreign investor confidence, and modernize regulations and public-sector administration in accordance with international best practices.

The seminar will feature a number of topics, such as “Understanding the OECD and Raising Thailand’s Practices to Global Standards,” “Applying OECD Standards at the National Level: The Case of Australia,” “The Role of Thai Parliament’s Advisory Committee on OECD Accession,” and “Report on the Work of the Subcommittee Reviewing and Monitoring Thailand’s Progress Toward OECD Membership.” Speakers will include representatives from relevant organizations, including the Office of the Council of State, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, and the King Prajadhipok’s Institute.

In addition to strengthening knowledge and promoting greater coordination between government agencies responsible for implementation, the seminar will also contribute to preparations for the King Prajadhipok’s Institute’s Annual Academic Conference, scheduled for November 2026. Representatives from the OECD, along with international participants, will attend the conference to exchange knowledge and experiences on OECD accession and on advancing toward international standards.
