Thailand Highlights the Vital Role of Media in Promoting Peace and Unity

Mrs. Sudruetai Lertkasem, Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), has underlined the crucial role of media in promoting peace and unity and building a more informed, harmonious, and resilient society.

The PRD Director-General on 20 August 2025 delivered opening remarks at the 23rd Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference, taking place at the Beyond Kata Resort, Kata Beach, Phuket Province.

Mrs. Sudruetai, also Chair of the AIBD Executive Board, stated that, as a long-standing member of AIBD, the PRD is committed to leveraging the role of media for peace, working closely with all member countries to build stability and mutual understanding across the region.

As host of the 23rd AIBD General Conference 2025, Thailand has proposed the theme "Media for People, Peace, and Prosperity,” which emphasizes AIBD’s collective responsibility to ensure that the media serves the public with facts, not opinions, and becomes a trusted voice in both normal times and during crises, as well as opening new windows of opportunities to the community and beyond.

Members of media organizations from more than 40 countries and territories, comprising AIBD members, affiliates, and partners, are participating in the 50th Annual Gathering, 23rd AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings, and the Media and Phuket Cultural Exhibitions. The Vice President of AIBD, who represents Cambodia, was unable to attend this General Conference.

Thailand has stressed its policy and actions at the regional and global levels, based on adherence to international principles and firmly committed to peace and international law, as well as fostering cordial relations with all countries.
