Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has announced a significant breakthrough in expanding cassava exports into western China, following a successful business matching event held in Chongqing on April 8, 2026. The initiative, led by the Department of Foreign Trade, generated strong interest among Chinese importers and resulted in 163 business matches between Thai exporters and Chinese partners.
The event brought together 22 Thai cassava entrepreneurs and 34 Chinese importers across industries including food processing, animal feed, logistics, and related sectors. Thai cassava products were well received, with Chinese partners
recognizing their quality and expressing readiness to import them as raw materials for industrial use. The projected order value within one year is estimated at 63.25 million USD (approximately 2.08 billion baht), reflecting strong demand in China’s rapidly developing western region.
Officials highlighted that while China remains Thailand’s top cassava export market, exports have traditionally been concentrated in eastern China. The expansion into western China—supported by improved logistics and infrastructure under development initiatives—opens new opportunities for Thai exporters. The mission also included a study visit to a major logistics hub in Chongqing, reinforcing Thailand’s strategy to enhance competitiveness and sustainably grow agricultural exports in global markets.
