Thailand Attends 47th ASEAN Summit ahead of Bilateral Talks with Global Leaders

Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has attended the opening ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event, held under Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” brought together regional leaders to advance shared goals in economic, social, and environmental cooperation. 

During the morning session, Prime Minister Anutin also joined the ASEAN Prize Ceremony and witnessed the signing of the document formally admitting Timor-Leste as a new member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

According to Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the Prime Minister’s agenda includes bilateral meetings with key international leaders. He will meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss global development and multilateral cooperation, followed by talks with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. to strengthen regional partnership. He is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Summit Plenary Session, where leaders will witness the signing of the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), reflecting continued progress toward a more open and dynamic regional free trade market.

At noon, Prime Minister Anutin will hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, security, and the suppression of online scams. The discussion underscores both nations’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership and promoting stability and economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Anutin is scheduled to join Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in signing a Joint Declaration on the outcomes of their bilateral talks, reaffirming Thailand and Cambodia’s commitment to deepening cooperation in mutual development and border relations. The Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the United States will witness the signing, marking a significant moment of regional solidarity during this year’s ASEAN Summit.
