Thailand and China Deepen Cooperation in Advanced Technologies and Space Innovation
Professor Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), recently discussed with H.E. Mr. Zhang Jianwei, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand on strengthening collaboration in higher education, scientific research, and technological development, focusing on strategic fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, semiconductors, clean energy, biotechnology, robotics, medical technology, and genomics.
Both also reviewed progress on several joint initiatives as Thailand is contributing scientific instruments to China's Chang’e-7 and Chang’e-8 lunar exploration missions, while cooperation in nuclear energy research and Earth observation technologies continues to advance. The Mekong–Lancang Earth Observation Data Center, a key bilateral project, is already supporting agricultural management, expected to expand into public health and environmental applications.
Meanwhile, Thai delegation led by Ms. Pasubha Chinvarasopak, Minister Counsellor for Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation at the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, and Assistant Professor Dr. Wiphu Rujopakarn, Executive Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), held discussions with the research agencies under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on developing an ultraviolet telescope to be installed on the Thai Space Consortium Pathfinder (TSC-P) satellite. This meeting highlighted the importance of Deep Ultraviolet Optics, which is vital not only for astronomy but also for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
Thailand also invites Chinese space agencies and experts to participate in Thailand Space Expo 2026, underscoring both countries’ shared commitment to technological innovation, sustainable development, and regional scientific cooperation. Looking ahead, both agreed to accelerate collaboration in emerging technologies, AI governance, and innovation commercialization.
