Thailand and Australia Expand Cultural Cooperation

Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised held bilateral talks with Australian Arts Minister Tony Burke at Parliament House on August 19, discussing five areas for expanded cultural cooperation during Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s official visit to Australia.

Discussions involved the return of Thai antiquities from Australia, joint cultural and creative activities, exchanges for artists and arts professionals, events commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2027, and a Cultural Cooperation Action Plan based on the bilateral cultural agreement signed in 1974. Senior officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Culture also attended.

In Sydney, Sabeeda joined the prime minister at engagements with the Lowy Institute and Canva and visited the Sydney Opera House to study its architecture, technology, and management of performing arts spaces. The delegation exchanged information on practices that could be adapted for cultural venues in Thailand.

Sabeeda also accompanied Anutin to Sydney’s Thai Town, where the delegation met members of the Thai community and local business owners. The Australian visit provided opportunities to expand arts, cultural, and people-to-people cooperation ahead of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
