Thailand Advances Innovation to Promote Physical Activity Among Children and Youth

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is moving forward with efforts to strengthen the health and well-being of Thai children and youth by opening a public hearing to gather input on the development of innovative physical activity programs. The consultation brings together government agencies, experts, educators, and relevant stakeholders to exchange ideas and help shape policies that encourage young people to engage in regular exercise and sports. The initiative reflects Thailand’s commitment to building a healthier generation while supporting long-term human capital development.

During the meeting, participants review the progress of ongoing projects aimed at developing innovative approaches to promote exercise and sports participation among children and youth. Discussions also focus on a draft guideline for promoting Physical Literacy in schools, which aims to equip students with the motivation, confidence, and physical competence needed to lead active lifestyles. The framework addresses multiple aspects of development, including the role of physical education teachers, strategies for building motivation, age-appropriate sports activities, and the enhancement of physical capabilities, alongside modules covering social development, behavioral change, and evaluation methods.

The session also features a collaborative brainstorming segment to gather feedback on policies and innovative tools designed to encourage youth participation in physical activity through digital platforms and community-based initiatives. Insights collected from the consultation will be used to refine future programs and measures that promote healthier lifestyles among Thai youth. The proposed innovation framework will be further submitted for consideration by the subcommittee responsible for advancing basic sports and physical activity development under Thailand’s National Sports Policy Committee, reinforcing the country’s vision of fostering an active, healthy, and resilient young generation.
