Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Canva’s Sydney headquarters on August 18 for talks on expanding global opportunities for Thai creators and small and medium-sized enterprises through digital technology and creative content.
Anutin met Canva co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Cliff Obrecht, Southeast Asia CEO Willix Halim, and regional executive Pakapol Thangtongchin. The discussions covered increasing Thai designs and cultural content on Canva’s platform, giving local creators greater access to international users and new income streams. Canva plans to increase the number of Thai Canva Creators from about 190 to 1,000 by 2028.
Canva also detailed its work with Thailand’s Department of Business Development and Digital Economy Promotion Agency to help SMEs apply design, digital tools, and artificial intelligence to products, packaging, and marketing. The company is also expanding educational cooperation with the Ministry of Education to improve digital skills among young people.
Anutin invited Canva to consider establishing a legal entity and expanding its presence in Thailand, while encouraging the company to work with the Board of Investment on investment and workforce development. The BOI will continue discussions with Canva on investment, skills training, and opportunities to connect Thai creative talent with global markets.
