Thai Military Criticizes Cambodian PM for Ignoring Fallen Soldiers

The Royal Thai Armed Forces has issued a statement criticizing Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, pointing out that he is using living soldiers as political props while ignoring those who died in the recent border conflict.

In the statement, Armed Forces Spokesperson Major General Vithai Laithomya called on Prime Minister Hun Manet to show genuine concern for all his troops. The spokesperson highlighted that while the Cambodian leader publicly called for the release of 18 detained soldiers, he made no mention of the Cambodian troops killed in action. The statement noted the absence of any condolences, requests to repatriate the bodies for funeral rites, or messages for their grieving families. This, the spokesperson suggested, is a “double standard” that ignores the humanity of the deceased to score political points.

The Thai military reiterated that the 18 Cambodian detainees are being treated humanely under international principles, emphasizing that their lives are not tools for public image. The statement concluded by urging the Cambodian government to begin with sincerity and accept the truth if it genuinely seeks a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
