Statement on the Misrepresentation of Comments Made by Thailand’s Second Army Area Commander

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify the misrepresentation made in the statement by the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia, regarding comments on Prasat Ta Kwai, made by Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Thailand’s Second Army Area Commander, in an interview on 10 August 2025, and which has been reported by various persons and media outlets in Cambodia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to place on record that, as the Royal Thai Army has already clarified, the Thai side has not redeployed any of its forces to encroach on Cambodian sovereignty in any way. At present, Thai forces remain in the positions in which they were deployed at the time that the ceasefire came into effect. Thailand stands ready to take part in the Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meetings with Cambodia, in line with the two-week timeframe as agreed during the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Thailand and Cambodia on 7 August 2025. This will enable the forces of both sides to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire within their respective areas.

Thailand reaffirms its strict adherence to the terms of the ceasefire, as agreed by both sides at the Extraordinary GBC Meeting. At the same time, Thailand reiterates our call on Cambodia to also strictly adhere and implement the terms of the ceasefire, particularly on refraining from disseminating false information or fake news, to avoid misunderstanding among the people on both sides, and create an environment conducive to peaceful dialogue.
