Scam Compounds Become Targets in Thai-Cambodian Border War

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, amid the ongoing clashes along the Thai–Cambodian border, Thai military forces have conducted operations against targets linked to transnational criminal networks known as “scam compounds.”

The article states that several casinos and hotel complexes on the Cambodian side were allegedly used as operational hubs for large-scale scam operations, victimizing people worldwide, including a significant number of U.S. citizens.

As of December 14, 2025,
the Royal Thai Army has neutralized at least six such facilities. Notably, two of the targeted sites had previously been sanctioned by the United States government, with their owners’ assets seized due to involvement in long-running transnational financial scam activities targeting Americans.

The report underscores that Thailand’s actions go beyond territorial defense. They represent a broader effort to disrupt transnational organized crime and contribute to global public safety and financial security.
