PRD Strengthens Media Cooperation with NHK and JIJI Press

Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) Ms. Sudruetai Lertkasem and Thai Media Fund Manager Dr. Dhanakorn Srisooksai, along with their delegation, are on a visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 17 to 19 September 2026 to strengthen cooperation with leading Japanese media organizations.

During the visit, the delegation had a meeting with NHK executives to exchange views on media development, including creative content for children and media accessibility for vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities. The discussion also covered media content produced by NBT World with the participation of Thai youth in Japan, highlighting how young people can contribute to media and communication. The PRD also featured “Thainess Beyond Borders,” a project aimed at building a network of young Thai communicators in Japan.

A key focus of the visit was the meeting with JIJI Press, where both sides discussed ways to deepen their existing relationship and explored the possibility of developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a framework for sustained media cooperation. Proposed areas include the exchange of news and digital content, knowledge and personnel exchanges, international and English-language news, digital media, and the use of technology in news production and distribution.

Both sides also discussed support for journalists working in Thailand and Japan, cooperation on crisis reporting and communication, as well as content exchanges and special interviews with key figures to mark the 140th anniversary of Thailand–Japan diplomatic relations in 2027. These discussions aim to establish a clearer framework for practical cooperation, paving the way for a future MOU.

The visit reflects the PRD’s efforts to strengthen its international media network, enhance the professional capacity of its personnel, promote the exchange of reliable and useful information, and expand opportunities for Thai content to reach international audiences.
