The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), through the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), has achieved a significant milestone in raising Thailand’s laboratory standards to the international level. The Toxicology and Bio Evaluation Service Center (TBES), under NSTDA, has been awarded the Certificate of Compliance to OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) for toxicological studies by the Laboratory Standard Bureau, Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health. This recognition underscores Thailand’s credibility and readiness to advance toward full membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
TBES serves as a core facility for pre-clinical safety testing of health and medical products, including cosmetics, herbal products, medical devices, and household chemicals. OECD GLP certification reflects the center’s adherence to international standards, enhancing the credibility of safety testing data and supporting Thailand’s ambition to become an OECD member. This milestone strengthens the country’s competitiveness and contributes to the long-term stability and sustainability of Thailand’s scientific infrastructure.
TBES emphasizes testing methods that provide alternatives to animal experimentation, aligning with global trends and international regulatory requirements. More than 40 countries have already banned animal testing for cosmetics, reinforcing TBES’s position at the forefront of modern, ethical scientific practice.
OECD GLP certification is a global benchmark ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and international acceptance of laboratory safety data. The accreditation not only elevates the status of TBES but also enables Thai health and medical products to use test results for both domestic and international registration without the need for duplicate testing. This reduces costs and time for Thai manufacturers and serves as a key mechanism to support the growth of the country’s bio-economy and health industries in a sustainable and competitive manner.
