The National Innovation Agency (NIA) participated in the 14th Global Research Council (GRC) Annual Meeting 2026, joining international leaders to help shape the future direction of global research and innovation cooperation.
The conference, co-hosted by Thailand’s Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council and Canada’s Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), brought together representatives from research funding organizations across 38 countries, along with diplomatic delegates from 70 countries worldwide.
The event focused on strengthening global collaboration in science, research, and innovation while addressing emerging global challenges. During the opening session, Thailand emphasized the importance of advancing technology and artificial intelligence alongside ethics, social responsibility, and open science principles to encourage inclusive and practical innovation for industries and communities.
Key discussions centered on two major themes: “Open Science,” aimed at reducing knowledge inequality through resource sharing and collaborative research, and “Research for Sustainable Communities,” which addressed global challenges including climate change, food security, and public health.
The meeting is expected to lead to the endorsement of international Statements of Principles on Open Science and Research for Sustainable Communities by the global research funding community.
As Thailand’s innovation-driving agency, NIA highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation and the integration of global knowledge and policy directions to strengthen Thailand’s innovation ecosystem. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging innovation to create positive economic and social impact while improving quality of life and supporting sustainable national development.
