National Artist Showcases Thai Craftsmanship Through Princess Sirivannavari’s Thai Dusit Ensemble During State Visit to France by Their Majesties the King and Queen

Theeraphan Wannarat, National Artist in Visual Arts (Fashion Design) for the year 2019, is a royal dressmaker who has designed and tailored royal attire for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

He was the designer and tailor behind the Princess’s Thai Dusit royal dress, worn during Her Royal Highness’s attendance at the state banquet hosted by the President of the French Republic and his spouse at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

The Thai Dusit ensemble worn by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari was crafted from silk brocade featuring the Lai Kaeo Ching Duang Lek pattern. The garment was exquisitely embellished with beads, colored stones, and sequins, and was meticulously tailored with refined craftsmanship.

Distinguished by its wide neckline, sleeveless bodice, bound neckline, and intricate embroidery, the ensemble was paired with a front-pleated traditional wrap skirt with a Chai Phok draped fold. These distinctive features make Thai Dusit one of the eight styles of Thailand’s fine national costume, traditionally worn for evening events and royal ceremonies requiring full ceremonial dress.
