The Deputy Minister of Defence thanks Team Thailand ahead of the Extraordinary Session of the GBC Meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, which includes the strong support from the Thai military for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and an interim observer arrangement

At noon on 7 August 2025, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, General Nattaphon Narkphanit, Deputy Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Defence, held discussions with Team Thailand at a luncheon hosted by H.E. Lada Phumas, Thai Ambassador to Malaysia, before attending the Extraordinary Session of the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Thailand and Cambodia this afternoon.

He also met with the Thai GBC Secretariat, who worked diligently from 4-7 August to reach agreements with the Cambodian GBC Secretariat on pending issues in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement along the Thai-Cambodian border. He expressed his hope that Cambodia would demonstrate sincerity and good faith in the upcoming meeting, which would ensure a successful and sustainable outcome. As the current situation has wide-ranging impacts, the government must continue to consider mutifaceted factors in addition to the military dimension, which includes both economic and social, and domestic and international.

He commended the Thai GBC Secretariat and everyone involved on their tireless efforts to advance this important national agenda. He affirmed the need for all relevant agencies to continue to reinforce one another's work, so that the agreements reached here will be sustainable, and supported by the interim observers to assist in ensuring compliance with the ceasefire agreement, which is to the benefit of both sides.
