MDES Partners with Four Agencies and LINE to Enhance Disaster Alert System through “Safety Check”

Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, (ชัยชนก ชิดชอบ) Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), presided as a witness at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on disaster alert notifications via the digital platform “Safety Check.” The collaboration brings together the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the Pollution Control Department, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and LINE Company (Thailand) Limited. The MOU was signed by Mr. Patchar Anantasils, (พชร อนันตศิลป์) Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, along with representatives from the participating agencies.

The Minister of Digital Economy and Society stated that the Ministry supports the integration of data among government agencies and digital platform providers to connect verified emergency alert information and disseminate it through channels that are easily accessible to the public. This approach aims to ensure that the disaster warning system is comprehensive, reliable, and effective nationwide.

The signing of this MOU marks a significant step forward in cooperation between government agencies and digital platforms, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, the Pollution Control Department, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and LINE Company (Thailand) Limited, in strengthening disaster communication through the “Safety Check” service.

The “Safety Check” feature is accessible via the LINE application, enabling the public to receive timely and essential information from government authorities and to confirm their personal safety during disaster situations. This enhances access to emergency safety support in a more efficient and effective manner.

In addition, “Safety Check” will form part of an integrated data system within the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s central database, consolidating information from all participating agencies. The system will be used to assist people in high-risk areas or those affected by disasters by providing accurate information, timely emergency assistance, and post-disaster relief and recovery support. Once assistance and compensation processes are completed, all personal data stored in the central database will be promptly deleted to prevent any violation of personal data protection.
