Innovative Exosuit Targets Better Mobility and Safety for Aging Society

A new research-driven body suit designed to support muscle movement and prevent falls is being introduced to the Thai market as part of a joint public–private initiative. Developed by Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency through cooperation with health and innovation agencies, the Rachel exosuit aims to extend the period of active and independent living among older adults. The project reflects the national push to transform laboratory research into commercial products that improve quality of life and reduce healthcare burdens. Government agencies involved in research funding, elderly care, health system development and prevention worked together to align innovation with national aging policies.

The exosuit uses human-centric design principles, integrating knowledge in engineering and materials science to create a solution that can be worn daily. The product enhances posture and stability in the shoulders, back, hips and thighs, helping to prevent injuries and maintain confidence during movement. The technology has been commercialized through collaboration with the textile industry, positioning the product as both functional and wearable. The suit is lightweight, breathable, machine-washable and available in multiple sizes, making it accessible for general use, including for working-age adults who want to avoid strain or injury.

As Thailand transitions rapidly into an aging society, the partners behind Rachel are working to ensure widespread access by promoting inclusion in the national health benefits scheme. Government agencies responsible for health promotion, public health investment, and elderly welfare view the innovation as a preventive tool that supports active aging, reduces the risk of falls, and lowers long-term
care costs. The product is now available at selected locations, with ongoing efforts to expand distribution and integrate the technology into community care systems to strengthen national health security and improve quality of life.
