The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that its ‘Half-Half Travel Thailand’ scheme would generate over 30 billion baht in domestic tourism revenue, as more than 1.7 million people have already signed up to participate. The initiative offers co-payment support of up to 3,000 baht per person for travel-related expenses, aiming to boost local tourism businesses and stimulate spending across the sector.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool revealed that 1.725 million people have registered, with 119,213 entitlements already used and 380,787 still available. A total of 5,748 businesses have joined the scheme, comprising 3,223 hotels and 2,525 other establishments, such as restaurants, attractions, and spas.
In the first two weeks alone, over 120,000 entitlements were redeemed, and TAT projects usage could reach 250,000 within the first month. If the budget remains after Phase 1, Governor Thapanee said TAT may consider launching a second phase.
The scheme aims to make travel more affordable for Thai citizens while boosting nationwide economic activity, aligning with the government’s efforts to strengthen local economies, generate employment, and support post-pandemic recovery through increased regional spending.
