EC Confirms Nationwide Readiness for Feb 8 Vote

The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed nationwide readiness for the election of Members of the House of Representatives and a national referendum scheduled for February 8. Polling stations across the country have been instructed to complete final preparations to support orderly voting and accurate results reporting.

Constituency election committees and polling officials have been directed to verify the accuracy and completeness of candidate lists and related materials displayed at polling stations. In constituencies where the Supreme Court has ordered a candidate’s removal, officials must post withdrawal notices, amend tally sheets and reporting forms, and treat ballots cast for withdrawn candidates as invalid.

Procedures are also in place for voters who cast advance ballots or registered for advance voting but did not participate. If they appear at polling stations on election day, they will be allowed to vote only in the referendum. Officials have been advised to manage polling areas carefully when MP election ballots and referendum ballots are counted simultaneously to prevent confusion or counting errors.

Voting will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with counting beginning immediately after polls close and conducted in public view at polling stations. Unofficial results will be submitted through the ECT Report 69 system, with an online dashboard expected to begin displaying results at about 6:30 p.m., covering up to 95 percent of polling stations in each constituency.

Security has been reinforced nationwide, with more than 126,000 police officers deployed to safeguard nearly 100,000 polling stations. The Royal Thai Police are overseeing election and referendum security operations through mid-February, with measures in place to maintain public order, prevent violations of election law, and ensure the safety of voters and election staff.
