Cabinet approves Thailand’s bid to host MotoGP for another 5 years

The Cabinet has approved Thailand’s continued hosting of the MotoGP World Championship for another five years, from 2027 to 2031, following a proposal from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The total budget allocated for organizing the event amounts to 3.99 billion baht, with adjustments allowed for currency fluctuations. The MotoGP, recognized as the world’s largest and fastest motorcycle racing event, attracts a global audience of over 800 million viewers across 207 countries, reinforcing Thailand’s presence on the international sporting stage.

Since its debut in 2018, the MotoGP in Thailand has grown into a major annual event that enhances the nation’s reputation for successfully hosting world-class competitions. It underscores Thailand’s capability and strengthens its standing as a sports hub in the ASEAN region. Beyond its sporting significance, the event has delivered substantial economic benefits—injecting an estimated 24.93 billion baht into the economy and drawing around 1.5 million visitors daily during the race period.

The success of previous races highlights the event’s positive ripple effects across multiple sectors, including hospitality, food services, transport, and tourism. On average, over 206,000 spectators—both local and international—attend each year, generating widespread revenue and boosting local economies. Building on this momentum, the government’s decision to extend hosting rights reflects its commitment to leveraging sports tourism as a driver of sustainable economic growth, while further elevating Thailand’s profile as a premier destination for global sporting events.
