Bangkok’s Metropolitan Administration is planning a new pedestrian-only bridge across the Chao Phraya River, aiming to improve walkable connections while creating a fresh landmark for the city. The project is designed to make it easier for people to cross the river on foot and enjoy Bangkok from a new perspective
The proposed bridge features a modern design with a golden lattice structure and a small garden space at the center. This area would allow pedestrians to pause, relax, enjoy river views, and take photos, turning the bridge into a new lifestyle and tourism spot rather than just a crossing point.
City offi cials say the plan responds to growing riverfront development, while pedestrian access across the river remains limited. Most existing bridges focus on vehicles, and walking options still rely heavily on boats. If approved, this would become the fi rst bridge across the Chao Phraya dedicated entirely to pedestrians.
The project is still under study, with careful consideration needed to avoid disrupting river traffi c and nearby communities. Public feedback will play an important role as Bangkok moves toward a more walkable, people-friendly city.
