Bangkok Launches Public Awareness Drive to Tackle Toxic PM2.5 Dust

As smog season approaches, Bangkok has launched a new campaign called “Knowing PM2.5 for Sustainable Protection” to raise public awareness about fine dust pollution and how to stay safe. The campaign, jointly organized by the Ministry of Public Health and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, was launched at the Thai-Japanese Stadium in Din Daeng.

Authorities aim to strengthen prevention and improve health services for pollution-related illnesses. Residents will receive real-time air quality updates through the AirBKK and 4Health apps, while vulnerable groups will be offered free health check-ups and community-level guidance.

Bangkok is also introducing measures such as low-emission zones, vehicle maintenance campaigns, and “anti-dust classrooms” for children. Green spaces, including new “15-minute gardens,” will be expanded to help absorb pollutants and cool neighborhoods.

Health officials warn that PM2.5 levels could peak between November and May, slightly higher than recent years. Residents are encouraged to monitor air quality via official apps and take precautions as the city works to reduce the impact of toxic dust and protect public health.
