The government is preparing to launch a nationwide campaign targeting cybercrime, with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul set to preside over the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at 11:00 a.m. today at Government House. The “War on Scammers” campaign aims to dismantle online fraud networks, crack down on money laundering, and strengthen cooperation across agencies responsible for financial systems, communications infrastructure, and law enforcement.
The agreement will involve 14 agencies, including the Royal Thai Police, the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Bank of Thailand, and both public and private banking associations. One of the campaign’s priorities is the development of a real-time system to identify and block suspicious financial transactions, closing gaps often exploited by online scam operations.
During a keynote address at an economic forum on November 5, Anutin warned that no one—regardless of status or influence—would be exempt from prosecution if involved in financial crimes. He also indicated that legal measures would include asset seizures and revocation of citizenship where evidence shows individuals have enabled money laundering or other cyber-related offenses.
Authorities say current efforts have already led to the seizure of over 20 billion baht in assets linked to scams, as well as stepped-up crackdowns on narcotics and illicit citizenship cases. These operations are being carried out quietly to avoid alerting criminal networks and to ensure long-term disruption rather than short-term visibility.
Once signed, the agreement is expected to establish a new operational framework for addressing cybercrime, with faster coordination among agencies and stronger protections for consumers. The Prime Minister has made clear that scammers will no longer find protection through loopholes or influence, and the government intends to act decisively.
