Changan Launches R&D Center in Thailand 80% Thai Parts for Right-Hand Drive Vehicles, Technology Transfer Planned

Thailand has been chosen as a strategic global base!

Chinese EV giant Changan Auto is moving forward with its first right-hand drive research and development center in Thailand, following the official opening of its new factory on May 16.

The company will also relocate its Asia-Pacific regional office to Thailand.


Three Key Missions for Changan
✅ Strengthening Thailand’s Supply Chain

  • Aiming to use 80% Thai-made parts by 2028 (up from 65% in 2024)
  • Transferring technology to local parts manufacturers to raise industry standards


✅ Creating Quality Jobs

  • Increasing Thai employment from 600 to 2,000 by 2026
  • Selecting Thai engineers to join the R&D team through partnerships with educational institutions

✅ Specialized Research

  • Developing right-hand drive EV technology tailored for the region
  • Expanding production capacity to 200,000 units per year

A Turning Point for Thailand’s Auto Industry

This R&D center is not just about innovation—it also positions Thailand as a true "modern automotive manufacturing hub" for ASEAN.

The first phase of investment, supported by the Board of Investment (BOI), exceeds 10 billion baht.
