Government Works Out Eight Flood Recovery Measures for Southern Residents

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the Government is preparing a rehabilitation plan to help flood-affected people in the South resume their normal lives as soon as possible. It has also worked out a package of measures to prioritize swift recovery and restore the livelihoods of residents in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, and other affected areas in southern provinces.

The eight measures are as follows:

1. Debt suspension on principal and interest payments for borrowers of commercial and state-owned banks with loans of up to one million baht for one year;

2. Providing interest-free livelihood and occupational loans of 100,000 baht for six months, with a three-year repayment period;

3. Granting 100,000 baht in zero-interest loans for home repairs for one year, with a three-year loan period;

4. Car insurance companies are instructed to expedite compensation under existing policies through streamlined procedures to help affected motorists;

5. The Social Security Office will provide the maximum compensation to all eligible insured individuals;

6. Families of those who lost their lives in areas declared under an emergency decree as a result of the flooding will receive two million baht in compensation;

7. The Government will implement special measures to support and quickly restore SMEs affected by the floods;

8. Tax-supported measures will be offered and economic-stimulus activities will be organized in Hat Yai and other affected areas to rebuild confidence, revive the local economy, attract tourists, and encourage spending. 

The Government will accelerate all rehabilitation efforts and provide full facilitation to ensure that life will return to normal as soon as possible for residents in Hat Yai and all disaster-affected communities.
