Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs meets with Chinese Special Envoy for Asian Affairs

On 21 December 2025, H.E. Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, held a discussion with H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional security, particularly the situation along the Thailand - Cambodia border.

The Thai side expressed appreciation for China’s constructive role in the Thailand - Cambodia situation and reiterated Thailand’s commitment to peace and its desire to see a genuine and sustainable ceasefire, based on the readiness and sincerity of the parties concerned. The Permanent Secretary also underscored that Thailand’s military operations were undertaken in self-defence, in accordance with international law, and were strictly directed at military targets.

The Permanent Secretary conveyed Thailand’s serious concern over Cambodia’s laying of landmines, following an incident earlier that morning (21 December 2025) in which a Thai soldier stepped on a landmine and lost his right ankle. She also expressed concern over the use of heavy weapons by Cambodian forces against civilian targets in Thailand, as well as Cambodia’s refusal to allow Thai nationals to return to Thailand through the Ban Khlong Luek - Poipet border checkpoint, which runs counter to international law and humanitarian principles.
