Thai Textile Fashion Soft Power Highlighted in Songkhla

Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has highlighted the success of the Thai Textile Fashion Soft Power Project in Southern Thailand, emphasizing its role in transforming local knowledge into contemporary fashion and creating sustainable economic opportunities for communities.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Southern Thai Textile Fashion Soft Power Project at Central Hatyai, Songkhla Province, on June 8, 2026, the Minister stated that the initiative honors the royal contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in preserving and promoting Thai textiles as valuable cultural heritage and a source of sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

The ceremony was attended by Director-General of the Public Relations Department Sudruetai Lertkasem, Songkhla Governor Ratthasart Chidchoo, senior provincial officials, PRD executives, business owners, designers, students, and members of the local community.

The project continues the royal initiatives of Her Majesty the Queen in promoting Thai textiles and acknowledges the contributions of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya through the “Have Fun Wearing Thai Fabric” initiative. This effort has increased international recognition of Thai textiles by combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion.

The PRD Director-General stated that the government has tasked the department with leading communications for the fashion Soft Power initiative, promoting Thai textiles through coordinated public outreach and media networks.

The project showcased over 50 contemporary Thai textile designs and products from 10 model communities nationwide, including those in Songkhla and Surat Thani. The initiative has increased product value and created tangible economic opportunities for local producers.

After successful events in Chiang Mai and Songkhla, the project will continue in Udon Thani from June 19 to 21, 2026, and conclude in Bangkok from August 11 to 13, 2026. The campaign aims to promote wider use of Thai textiles, expand market opportunities, increase community income, and strengthen Thailand’s Soft Power on the global stage.
