Free “Happy Bus” Service Launched to Revive Hat Yai

The Tourism Authority of Thailand, working with the Songkhla Provincial Chamber of Commerce, YEC Songkhla, and local transport and tourism partners, has launched the “Amazing Hatyai Happy Bus” project, offering free public bus services in Hat Yai from December 24 through February 28, 2026.

The service operates daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with departures every hour on two main routes within the city, improving mobility and reducing transportation disruptions during the recovery period.

Four Department of Land Transport–certified minibuses, each seating 20, operate on the two routes. One connects Hat Yai Railway Station with Prince of Songkla University, serving major hotels and tourist areas. The second links Prince of Songkla University, Fountain Roundabout, and Hat Yai Railway Station, covering the central commercial and business districts. Passengers can track bus locations in real time through an online system.

Officials said recent flooding damaged many private and commercial vehicles, while limited urban transport capacity risked disrupting travel and slowing the local tourism economy. Hat Yai remains a key economic and tourism center in southern Thailand and a popular destination for travelers from Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, many of whom rely heavily on public transportation.

At least 15,000 people are expected to use the free bus service during the project period. The service has been established to revive travel activity, support local businesses, and prepare the city to welcome visitors again in the months ahead.
