Bangkok, 21 October 2025 – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand (MDES), through the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat, UNESCO, and the Global Initiative on the Future of the Internet (GIFI) under the European University Institute (EUI), organized the ASEAN–UNESCO Multistakeholder Forum on the Governance of Digital Platforms from 20–22 October 2025 in Bangkok. The forum serves as a platform to discuss approaches for developing transparent, fair, and human rights–based digital platform governance in the region.
Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, stated that this forum reflects Thailand’s strong commitment to promoting digital governance in line with international standards while addressing the unique context of ASEAN. In today’s digital era, where online platforms have become integral to daily life—spanning economic, social, and cultural dimensions—he emphasized the need to establish a balanced governance mechanism that safeguards users’ rights while fostering responsible innovation.
“The digital world is evolving rapidly. We must work together to build a transparent, sustainable, and inclusive governance framework that enables trusted and secure digital services,” said the Minister.
The three-day forum brings together global experts, government representatives, private sector leaders, civil society, and international organizations to exchange perspectives on key issues such as global and regional cooperation on digital governance, the regulation of generative AI and emerging technologies, online safety, child protection, and media and information literacy. The discussions aim to advance the concept of “Digital Governance for a Trusted Future” toward a concrete regional collaboration framework under ASEAN.
