Vietnam and Japan Support Thailand’s Efforts to Restore Peace in the Region

Government Spokesperson and Member of the Ad Hoc Center for the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation Jirayu Huangsap stated that Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on July 30, 2025 had discussions with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and Japan’s Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi.

Both Vietnam and Japan inquired about the Thai-Cambodian border situation and expressed their understanding of Thailand’s position. They welcomed Thailand’s peaceful and diplomatic approach to resolving border tensions and voiced support for its efforts to restore peace in the region.

The talks reflect Thailand’s proactive diplomacy in clarifying the situation to the international community. They also show that many countries, including Vietnam and Japan, recognize Thailand’s efforts to resolve the issue, with restrained response, on the basis of international agreements and principles of good neighborliness.

Additionally, Mr. Maris also discussed ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Vietnam and Japan. Vietnam’s Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Thailand to attend the 5th Mekong–Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Summit, aiming to strengthen sub-regional ties and advance comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The Japanese Foreign Minister was also invited to visit Thailand to further deeper bilateral cooperation.
