Thailand Unveils MICE City Strategy to Position 10 Key Cities as Global Creative & Business Hubs

Thailand’s Deputy Interior Minister presided over the MICE City Summit 2026, bringing together governors from 10 designated MICE cities and key partners to drive a unified national strategy. The initiative aims to elevate cities such as Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Khon Kaen into internationally competitive destinations for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions, while strengthening local economies through integrated development.

A key highlight of the summit was the signing of a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Interior, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and Prince of Songkla University to develop high-skilled talent and enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s MICE industry. The policy framework emphasizes innovation, creativity, and cross-sector collaboration, positioning MICE cities not just as event venues but as dynamic ecosystems that foster knowledge exchange, business opportunities, and sustainable growth.

Looking ahead, Thailand aims to transition from a tourism-focused model to a “Creative & Business Hub” on the global stage, aligning with initiatives such as the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The strategy underscores balanced growth, ensuring that benefits from international events extend to local communities, SMEs, and grassroots economies. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment through the “Thailand MICE City Declaration,” signaling that the country is ready to emerge as a world-class MICE destination with strong infrastructure, hospitality, and long-term economic impact.
