Thailand & Myanmar Sign Key Agreements on Labor, Water & Space Cooperation

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a plenary meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing during the latter's official visit to Thailand, focusing on strengthening comprehensive bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

Both sides reaffirmed their close ties and committed to advancing cooperation across security, economy, cross-border trade, development, and shared transboundary challenges.

∙ Security and Economic Cooperation
The Thai Prime Minister emphasized the importance of border stability and the suppression of transnational crimes, including narcotics trafficking and online scams, alongside efforts to promote border trade. Key initiatives include the reopening of the Second Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge and the hosting of the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting this year to boost regional commerce and transport connectivity.

∙ Labor and Environmental Cooperation
Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of Myanmar workers through new agreements, while both countries pledged closer cooperation on tackling transboundary haze and water pollution, as well as expanding collaboration in public health, agriculture, and space technology.

∙ Agreements Signed
Following the discussions, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of three cooperation documents:
◇ A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labor cooperation, along with an Agreement on Employment between the governments of Thailand and Myanmar
◇ Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Joint Working Group on Water Quality Management in Transboundary and Shared Rivers
◇ An MOU between the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and the Myanmar Space Agency on cooperation in the peaceful applications of earth observation technology.

This signing marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations across labor, water management, and space technology — reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainable prosperity for both nations.
