Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul took the stage at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 in Shanghai, China, delivering a keynote address under the theme "AI Partnership for a Brighter Future."
His message was clear that the world is undergoing a technological transformation unlike any before. And whether AI truly benefits humanity depends on how responsibly nations choose to shape its direction together.
The Thai Premier proposed three core principles for AI governance:
• Protect people
• Unlock potential
• Build shared prosperity
To turn these principles into action, Thailand is establishing an AI Governance Practice Center, a hands-on testing ground where government, private sector, and academia can apply international AI governance standards and translate them into real-world practice.
The most striking line of the speech is "The choice before us today isn't innovation versus regulation, it's building 'trusted progress' together.”
The Thai Prime Minister emphasized that AI must not become another battleground for geopolitical competition. Instead, it should be a platform for global cooperation — bridging divides, expanding collaboration, and strengthening shared rules to ensure AI creates a future that is safe, prosperous, and leaves no one behind.
It’s a clear signal that Thailand wants a seat at the table in shaping how the world governs AI, not just adopts it.
