Thai Government Announces Emergency Flood Measures

Following a special Cabinet meeting on 27 September, the Thai government unveiled some urgent measures to strengthen its response to ongoing flooding in Bangkok and other affected areas.

Government Spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed all agencies to coordinate closely and act swiftly.

Key measures relevant to residents:

• Military trucks deployed to assist with evacuations and transporting belongings

• Free parking offered at government facilities with available space

• Tap water quality checks, with backup power plans in case of outages

• Support for vulnerable groups, including hospital transfer arrangements for patients

• Regular public updates via a new joint briefing center (Government Public Relations Department and MCOT)

• Government agencies considering work-from-home arrangements, with private companies encouraged to follow suit

The government says it will continue monitoring flood-prone areas, including flash flood and landslide risks, while managing traffic and drainage operations citywide.
