Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun on 9 August 2026 welcomed diplomats and representatives from 15 countries on their visit to a durian orchard in the southern province of Surat Thani, as part of the “Thailand: The Land of Tropical Fruits” campaign.
The visit offered the members of diplomatic corps an opportunity to experience Thai fruits directly at their source. The fruits include more than 10 varieties of durian, salak, rambutan, and fresh coconut juice. The Deputy Prime Minister also used the traditional Thai “wai” gesture to express gratitude to the diplomatic guests, showcasing Thai identity and hospitality.
Organized by the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, the campaign aims to build international confidence in the quality, standards, and diversity of Thai fruits while promoting fruit-related trade and tourism and positioning Thailand as a “Global Fruit Destination.”
The diplomats and representatives from 15 countries participating in the program were from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cuba, Guatemala, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, the Republic of Korea, Maldives, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
