Get to Know the Royal Scholarship Program for Thai Monks From a Royal Vision to Advancing Buddhism Development

The Royal Scholarship Program for Thai Monks was established by the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on February 5, 2004. It aims to provide gifted monks and novices the opportunity to pursue advanced Buddhist studies at domestic Buddhist institutions, including Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Mahamakut Buddhist University, and the Pali Sangha College.

The royal vision behind this program is to deepen monks’ understanding of Buddhist principles, enable thorough comprehension of the Tripitaka, and empower them to accurately transmit this knowledge to the public, thereby laying a strong foundation for the sustainable propagation of Buddhism.

His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn continues this mission with steadfast dedication, graciously awarding scholarships to monks and novices to nurture their spiritual leadership enriched with wisdom, knowledge, and virtue, ensuring the enduring strength of Buddhism.

Since its inception over 20 years ago, more than 12,000 monks and novices have received scholarships totaling over 141 million baht. This program not only promotes monastic education but also exemplifies the royal patronage’s unwavering commitment to Buddhism and the Thai people.
