New Passport Guide

Passport is an important document that shows the details of a person traveling abroad. It contains the name, surname, identification number, signature, photograph, age, nationality, religion, occupation, passport number, etc., used to facilitate traveling abroad and is an important document that will be used as evidence for applying for a visa to enter certain countries. 

For foreigners traveling for business, work, meetings, and living and having a trip in Thailand, If you wish to apply for a new passport because the old one is lost, damaged or expired, what documents must be prepared and processed? Instructions compiled as a guide to apply for a new passport to make things easier are as follows: 

Lost passport replacement 
1. To report to the police at the local police station.
2. To provide information and records about the lost passport in the report, such as the lost passport number.
3. To contact your own national embassy in Thailand to apply for a new passport. 

In the case of foreigners residing in Thailand:

If you lose your passport, you may apply for an emergency travel document while you haven't got your passport and if there is no embassy of your country located in Thailand, you can contact the Office of Visas and Foreigners Travel Documents, 3rd Floor, Department of Consular Affairs, Chaengwattana, to request for the issuance of Emergency Certificate (EC).

In the case of a damaged, expired passport

Please contact your own national embassy in Thailand to apply for a new passport. Many embassies will have their citizens contact and apply for a new passport online for a different fee. It is free of charge for transferring stamps to a new passport. 


Passport replacement in case of loss, expiration and out of stamp pages, the following documents shall be prepared:

1. Application form
2. Copy of the report from the police station
3. Copy of old passport with photo (if any)
4. Copy of the new passport
5. Letter from the embassy to the Immigration Office asking for cooperation

The Immigration Office shall make a copy of the entry stamps in the new passport for the foreigner.

Procedures and Practices

1. The foreigner meets the officer at the passport replacement service counter, Subdivision 2, Immigration Division 1, to submit an application and fill in details such as name, surname, passport number, date, month, year of entry and flight.

2. The officer checks the details of the request and checks its accuracy and validity of the passport or document used in lieu of a new passport and must include the report.

3. The officer examines evidence of entry to the Kingdom.

4. Once ensuring that the entry into the Kingdom is accurate, it will proceed to copy the arrival stamps for the foreigner.

5. In the event that the foreigner has applied for an extension of stay in the Kingdom or has a residence in the Kingdom, he or she must go to the officer at the department related to the visa or Subdivision 1, Immigration Division 1, as the case may be, in order to have a copy of the permit to stay in the Kingdom to wait for the result of an extension of residence or to wait for the result of the application for residence permit in the Kingdom. 

Remarks: In case of having applied for an extension of stay in the Kingdom, you can submit an application at the immigration checkpoint where you applied for your last stay in the Kingdom.
