Travel + Leisure released its annual ranking of Asia’s top cities for 2025, with Chiang Mai earning the highest score of 91.94 points. The northern Thai city clinched the top spot due to its rich culture, authentic lifestyle, local cuisine, natural beauty, and the friendliness of its residents. Notable attractions include Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a revered temple and popular city viewpoint among tourists worldwide. Surrounded by lush green mountains, Chiang Mai also boasts stunning national parks and conservation activities such as elephant sanctuaries that attract many visitors. Tokyo ranked second with 91.39 points, followed by Bangkok in third place with 91.34 points.
Popular attractions in Chiang Mai include the scenic vistas at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, national parks, and ecological programs like elephant conservation centers. Besides Chiang Mai, 15 other Asian cities made the list, including Jaipur, Hoi An, Kyoto, Ubud, Siem Reap, Mumbai, and Seoul.
This ranking reflects worldwide traveler satisfaction and highlights Thailand’s readiness to provide quality tourism experiences.
