The island province of Phuket in southern Thailand has become a venue for a major gathering of members of leading media organizations in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. They are joining the 23rd Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference on 19-21 August 2025.
The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) of Thailand is hosting the 50th Annual Gathering, 23rd AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings, and a media showcase event (Media and Phuket Cultural Exhibitions) at the Beyond Kata Resort, Kata Beach.
The AIBD General Conference in 2025 is held under the theme of “Media for People, Peace, and Prosperity,” which reflects the institute’s core mission to drive the media industry forward with responsibility and creativity, especially in an era when technology and artificial intelligence (AI) play an increasingly important role.
The AIBD Strategic Plan Team (SPT) Meeting took place on the morning of 19 August to review AIBD strategic plans and initiatives. The key highlight from SPT was the formation of the new steering committees on Content, Emerging Technology and AI in the Broadcast Industry, and Sustainability for Media, which will be central to driving the AIBD’s future strategy. This initiative will be presented to the General Conference on 20 August.
The SPT meeting was followed by the Executive Board (EXBO) Meeting, chaired by PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem, in the afternoon on the same day. It reviewed the AIBD direction and strategies, taking into consideration a rapidly evolving media landscape shaped by technology and changing consumer behaviors.
The gathering of broadcasters, media experts, and policy makers in the 23rd AIBD General Conference is seen as a significant international forum for those in the media industry to share and establish networks for their collaboration, especially in the current vibrant media environments. It will also help promote friendship and create a favorable impression among them.
